SAFE News

Choices programmes run by SAFE continue to transform lives – both young and old. Thank you for supporting us. It’s been a while since you heard from us, but we are planning to change all that.

If you would like to be removed from this mailing list, please let us know by replying with unsubscribe in the email. Otherwise, we very much look forward to being better at keeping in touch with you.

So, for some overdue news! Future editions will be shorter😊

Following Choices courses 90% of our young People aged 16-25 have moved into Education, Employment or training which is extremely encouraging.

Nikita (22) attended a course in April:
"This course was absolutely incredible. I'm extremely happy that I have attended it.
Right now, I feel like a completely different man. I'm motivated, confident and sincerely
passionate about what's coming up in the future.

I believe that this course must be attended if you have definitely hit the wall which you
cannot pass. One of my major, let's say, bricks in the wall, were bricks of rejection. I've
feared it for so long that it has caused a huge negative impact in my life. I felt worthless,
hopeless, lifeless and suicidal.

Thanks to this course, I've found an appropriate strategy to overcome my fears. That worked like a sledgehammer. I didn't decide to find a way over, I've made a decision to go straight through it by smashing the wall so much that it is impossible to repair it. I no longer want to end my life and right now, I feel like a completely different man. I'm motivated, confident and sincerely passionate about what's coming up in the future. I have just been offered a job as an admin assistant which I am very happy about.

Overall, I just have two words for the newcomers: do it. This is the best opportunity you
can get. Good luck"

We are running a Portsmouth based youth course for the first time in a number of years with a planned start of 6th/7th June for five weeks. Many thanks to Northend Baptist Church, 195 Powerscourt Road, PO2 7JH for letting us use their premises and for Becki (their new youth leader) for working with us to make this happen. Please do email michelle.hammerton@safe.org.uk if you know of any 16-25-year-old young people who are at risk of Not being in Education, Employment or Training or who are already NEET.

Choices can most definitely help them overcome their barriers, mental health issues, lack of hope and move into a purpose filled life. Many thanks to People Postcode Trust (PPT) and also the Henry Smith Foundation for funding these courses.

Other NEET courses include an upcoming one in Southampton course in partnership with Youth Options, targeting young people from chaotic and/or dysfunctional backgrounds needing to turn their lives around at this pivotal stage.

Our last two 3-day courses are being held in the Isle of Wight and Southampton. Thanks to Southampton City Council for commissioning this mental health interventions as part of the Solent Jobs Programme. These are the amazing results achieved in just 3 days from our last two courses:

Eight Community courses targeting homeless/vulnerable people were run from Apr17 - Mar18
A special thanks to James Street Church who hosted five of these courses. Other courses were held at community venues in Eastleigh, Paulsgrove, North End and Testwood. Many thanks to the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Community Foundation (HIWCF) for this EU European Social Funding. The results have been quite miraculous with 77% of our candidates moving into employment or active job searching and 22% moving into education or training. We can hardly believe it!

Premises
No charities at our Dukes Keep offices have been allowed to use the premises since January as they were carrying out urgent wiring repairs. To date, no repairs have been carried out. If you know of low-cost office and training room premises that we could use, please let us know!

Trustees and management
We are looking for new trustees especially those with expertise in HR, Finance or fundraising. If you know of anyone, please let us know by emailing nina.kelly@safe.org.uk

Thank you all again for your support, love and concern.
